The first movements in a chess game are known to be the opening. The chess opening can widely vary in character. They usually vary from the quiet positional game play to a more aggressive tactical play. More often, chess players can choose to begin with the opening sequence that is considered to be a standard one. This is called as book moves. At some other times, a chess player may choose for an opening game that is somehow an improvisation of a standard move. Those moves may vary but the goal is just the same which is to develop a solid start to a position that is more aggressive into which you can eventually launch an attack to the opposing player’s King.
In a chess game, a player must make the classic chess openings in good use and place their chess pieces in a steady and strong position. At the starting point, it can never be clear which part of the chess board the chess pieces will be most needed. Therefore, it is very important to maintain an effective and strong control over the center squares of the board so that certain chess pieces can move with just minimal issues whenever they are required. In regards with the classical theory, putting the pawns on the d4 and e4 is the most effective way to maintain the control of the central squares of the chess board.
However, in the modern learning of the chess theory today, there is a different approach taught for the effective control. That is, instead of placing the chess pieces in the center squares, it is to control the central part from the distance and breaking down the defense of the opponent in the center. The King is positioned at the middle of the chessboard accordingly. In this way, both players can easily do castling in the opening as well as to do the artificial castling by bringing the King into the side of the chessboard.
In the classic chess openings, chess players try to prevent the creation of the weaknesses of their pawns. This is called Pawn weakness. The pawn weakness is the presence of doubled, isolated, and clustered pawns (just like a pawn island). Most of the chess players do sacrificing at the endgame so that they can do quick attack on the positioning of their opponent while some chess players sacrifice their pawns at the start to establish a quick attack on the opposing player at the end game phase.
The different authors on the chess opening topics have the opinion of the White being the more advantageous one because they are the one who move first while the Black pieces equalize the chess game. It is said that the white is more aggressive yet sometimes, black is seen to be more aggressive then the black because they tend to negate or equalize the white moves. Whatever your color is, you must well establish a good opening to be able to have a chance of winning the game.
